Charlene Cowan

Project Lead, Bytes

As a Project Lead, Charlene oversees Bytes staff and projects in Belfast and leads the Project Development team, designing new and innovative tech programmes and sourcing funding to support these through a variety of sponsors. 


She has recently been, or currently is, involved in the management of:  

•PCSP Detached project with Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. 

•PCSP On-Street project with Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council. 

•Young Engineers project sponsored by Camlin Technologies. 

•Lifemaps and Youth Network for Peace in partnership with Youth Action. 

•Megabytes children’s clubs with Belfast City Council 

•Mental Health and Resilience project in Partnership with The Hummingbird Project and Kippie, sponsored by PWC. 


Charlene started her career in childcare, working for five years as a Team Leader in a Day Nursery before moving into a Teaching & Learning Facilitator role, delivering Children and Young People Qualifications. Alongside this she worked as a Bail Support Mentor through Youth Justice Agency, which inspired her to become a Youth Worker. To date she has thirteen years of experience working with children and young people and five of working in the Voluntary Sector.
